For anyone interested in one of the pre-eminent members of the group of writers and intellects who formed the legendary Algonquin Hotel's round table, this book is recommended. Not only do you get to sample some of the famous Parker wit and short story writing but you also get an introduction to some of the other members of the group, their inter-actions and their relations with other luminaries not part of the round table.. The 'fun and games' were only on the surface and beneath the veneer there are some sad and even tragic stories as each member struggles to get his or her voice heard. The author's well researched book tells Parker's story in a compassionate style but doesn't soft pedal the less attractive aspects of her life. The story may also be a revelation to anyone interested in Parker's activities during the turbulent political times in which she lived. Recommended.
